So, you consciously “know” that you should be proud of all your accomplishments and acknowledge that you are, in fact, deserving of that promotion/accolade/compliment but why don’t you actually believe it? I’ll tell you why. Logic, reason, and rationale are housed in the conscious part of the mind which is estimated to be roughly 10% of the mind power. Your beliefs and habits, however, are located in the subconscious mind which is the other whoppin’ 90%. That means that simply “knowing” that you aren’t an imposter doesn’t help you to feel any less of a fraud if there is a deep-seated belief that you aren’t enough/worthy/valuable. That disempowering belief will win every time.
But all is not lost my friend. There are a handful of ways to access and shift the beliefs of the subconscious mind and one of my absolute favorite methods is via hypnosis. In this episode, I share a bit about what hypnosis is, how it works, and how it can be a powerful aid in shifting negative beliefs you may hold about being a fraud or an imposter. After a brief explanation, I guide you through a powerful hypnosis session to help you unlock the negative beliefs you’ve been attached to around your imposter complex.
This pod explores:
What hypnosis actually is (as in, what is really happening in the brain) and what it is not (It’s not clucking like a chicken, FYI)
What hypnosis has to do with the inner critic and how you can use it to kick your inner critic in the ass
How you go into hypnotic trances daily without even knowing it
How to shift your belief that you are a big-ass fraud

You land your perfect job. And then your inner voice tells you that you are horribly unqualified and everyone is going to find you out.
You enter a super healthy relationship with an awesome partner. And then your inner voice tells you how damaged you are, why you aren’t good enough, and why it’s all going to come crashing down in a blazing inferno.
You finally finish that graduate degree. And then your inner voice tells you how you were the slowest in the class, probably won’t get hired, and should probably just try to get your old job back.
Sound familiar? If so, you are likely battling a lovely little issue we (in the personal growth world) like to call The Imposter Complex – A.K.A. Feeling like a fraud. The idea that, in spite of your success or accomplishment, you are somehow not good enough, a total charade, and have fooled everyone who will surely soon find you out.
In this week’s episode, I discuss what to do when you continue to beat yourself up about being an imposter in your career, relationship, as a parent, or whatever. You’ll learn what to do with those pesky thoughts, how to acknowledge yourself (without being a cocky asshole), and how to own your god-damned brilliance (even if that terrifies you).
This pod explores:
The reason why over 70% of people struggle with Imposter Complex at some point in their life
How to zero in on what you’re really afraid of so you can get a handle on your triggers and create a much more empowering inner convo

Tell me if this sounds familiar. You land a promotion you’ve been working toward for ages and instantly a barrage of commentary from your inner critic pipes in, “Just wait until they find out you have no idea what you are doing. You know it’s just a matter of time before they find you out.” Or maybe you are about to have your art featured in a high-profile exhibit, or you landed a lead role in a play you auditioned for, or your band is going to headline a major event and instead of thrill and excitement for this accomplishment, your inner shit-talker goes on a bender. “When they see who you really are, they’re going to regret giving you this opportunity. Who do you think you are!?”
If you’ve landed in the murky territory of the Imposter Complex, you are certainly not alone. In fact, some of the greatest minds of our time have admitted to struggling with feeling as though they are about to be “found out”. So, the great news is that Tina Fey, Michelle Obama, Maya Angelou, and Meryl Streep are living proof that this debilitating thought process doesn’t have to thwart your success. But, how? How does one move through the gloomy feeling of “I’m a fraud!”?
In this week’s show, I am thrilled to dial-up an expert on the subject. Tanya Geisler is a dear friend and colleague and one of the foremost experts on the subject of the imposter complex. She shares the specific behaviors we tend to employ (hint: perfectionism, people-pleasing, etc.) when in the throws of the imposter complex and what we can do to start shifting that narrative.
This pod explores:
Why it’s not really a syndrome and why we need to stop calling it that
The origin of Imposter Complex and how that affects us today
The connection between your self-worth and feeling like an imposter and what to do about it
Figuring out what your imposter complex go-to behaviors are

Tanya Geisler is a certified Leadership Coach, TEDxWomen speaker, and writer who teaches high-performing leaders how to combat their Imposter Complex and lead with impeccable impact so they can achieve their ultimate goals. Her clients include best-selling authors, public speakers, and rockstar motivators.
What if you could listen in to a coaching session where someone is being coached on feeling like an imposter? You’d be all over it, right? Well, you’re in luck, my friend. In this inaugural coaching episode, I work with a lovely and highly accomplished woman, Rachel, on her struggle of feeling “not enough” and how that manifests into an imposter complex in her workplace.
When I asked how imposter complex was showing up in her life, here is what she shared with me:
I’m constantly plagued by the idea that I need to achieve more or earn more credentials in order to step into my expertise. I work in violence prevention/intervention and I’m also a survivor of various forms of interpersonal violence. I’m so worried about showing up EITHER as a survivor OR an expert because of how long I’ve been doing this work instead of owning that some of the expertise I have is simply because I lived it. I constantly feel like “who are you” to think I can become a consultant on issues I know damn well I am capable of consulting on and feel like I’m not worthy of stepping into my power as an actual expert in my field. I’m always making the excuse that I need to do more schooling or work for longer when in my heart I would love to step up and own my skill set.
We dig into her constant pull to amass credential after credential in order to prove her worth, the constant feeling of “not enough”, and some steps to take to start altering this reality. If you find yourself addicted to approval or achievement at the cost to your own happiness, this episode is a must-listen. Creep our session, have a pen and paper handy and get ready to steal Rachel’s homework for yourself.
This pod explores:
The first step in changing the belief that you are an “imposter”
Understanding how our beliefs about “not being enough” are formed and take hold
The connection between your self-worth and feeling like an imposter and what to do about it
How to stop collapsing your “enoughness” with your accomplishments

Regardless if your parents were amazing or downright awful, it is highly likely that there are certain things you experienced as a child that have greatly impacted your current reality. And, not necessarily in a positive way. Although we don’t realize it at the time, we take in every bit of information from our parents, form beliefs off of that information, and develop a complex system of coping mechanisms.
So, maybe your mom always picked her body apart in front of you, so you developed the belief that you had to have a “perfect” body in order to be worthy. Or lovable. Or a “real woman”. And this belief led to you clinging to perfectionism around your relationship with your body. Or maybe your dad was constantly absent leading you to conclude that men in your life will abandon you. And now, in adulthood, you find yourself picking romantic partners who aren’t emotionally or physically available or searching for approval from your male co-workers.
Reckoning with the impact of your parents is no small feat and can stir up many uncomfortable thoughts and emotions. But, on the other side of that reckoning is unbelievable healing and freedom. Trust… we don’t dig up this shit for the fun of it. We do it to heal. To move to the other side. To access our worth and our happiness. In this episode, I share a three-part formula you can use to unpack the effects of your parents, begin to let go of the past, and access your “enoughness”.
This pod explores:
The real reason you cling to people-pleasing, perfectionism, and control
Why we still want approval from our parents… even when they’re total asshats
An easy, 3-step acronym to help you deal with the residue of your childhood
How to figure out the beliefs you created due to what was modeled for you by your parents (and what to do to change them)

Tell me if this sounds familiar. Your mom/bestie/sister/co-worker starts complaining about something you totally used to struggle with and your first thought is, “OMG! I know the solution! Let me just tell her what she should do…” Don’t get me wrong. You’re not trying to be a boss-pants and all condescending, you just genuinely know of something that may help. After all, it helped you, so surely they want to hear about it!
So why would your sage advice *not* be welcomed with open arms? I’ll tell you why. (Of course, I will.) Often when you jump into the world of personal development, you start making some seriously awesome strides and your first instinct is to share that with your closest circle. Yet, sometimes they aren’t so ready to hear you. So, what are you supposed to do… just let them suffer!?
If you’ve found yourself wanting to share your newfound love of personal growth with someone not-so-ready to listen, this episode is a MUST LISTEN. I sound off on four, specific ways you can share personal development tactics and concepts with those you care so much about… without coming across pushy and dismissive to what they may be going through.
This pod explores:
The three ways people usually respond to “the new and improved YOU”
Exactly what NOT to do if you want someone to hear you out
How you can incorporate games and play into sharing your journey with others
How to offer solutions in a super disarming, loving way

Tell me if this sounds familiar: You interview for a job that has a ton of other candidates and you constantly ruminate on all the other applicants and wonder how you compare. Or, maybe you grew up in a family with so much competition that you felt you couldn’t ever measure up if you didn’t have fourteen degrees like your older sister. Or be the star athlete like your brother. Or maybe you find yourself in constant competition with your besties to see who can be the thinnest/richest/best parent, etc.
It is no secret that our society thrives on competition and comparison. The beauty and fitness industries feed on it. After all, our ancestors stayed alive by competing with one another. So, no wonder we feel like the only way to survive is to beat everyone else. Be the best at everything. Our weight. Our relationships. Our finances. Our work. All of it. Be the fucking best.
Because, what happens if you aren’t the best? You are simply not enough. The concept of competition implies there is only one winner and therefore, everyone else just simply isn’t as valuable. And, this concept wreaks havoc on our self-esteem. So what do we do about it? So glad you asked. In this week’s show, I sound off on the difference between healthy and toxic competition, how to spot the difference, and how to own your self-worth like a badass no matter what anyone else is doing.
This pod explores:
How to decipher if being competitive is motivating and inspiring to you or if it leaves you feeling empty, broken, and not enough
Key questions to ask yourself to evaluate if “I’m just super competitive” is an empowering way to identify
The reason why reckoning with our competitive nature is a fierce act of liberation (and how it relates to social justice)
How to focus on YOU instead of measuring yourself against everyone else

You walk into work, totally optimistic about your day, and you give your co-worker a casual ‘How-ya-doin’-today?’ She responds with her usual quip about how she’s ‘alright-I-guess’ but immediately launches into complaining about her neighbor/workload/recent ailment.
Or maybe it’s every time you give your sister a ring on the phone. You ask how she’s doing. She starts off with all the problems… all the things that are shitty… or all the reason’s she’s a total victim. And you’re over here like, “Why is everyone so damn negative!?”
It can sometimes feel like it will take a sheer act of god to stay positive around negative people. It tends to be a much more difficult endeavor to get others to join your positivity movement than to simply indulge and comply with their complaints, ho-humery, or victim mentality.
So, what’s a personal development junkie to do when around such negativity? Just cut those people out entirely? But, what if they’re co-workers? I can’t just quit my job! And, what if they are The Fam? Not to worry, my love. In this episode, I discuss 7 tactics you can use to keep your sanity around Debbie/Danny Downer without feeling like an elitist asshole.

IIf you’re like many of my clients and students, you have likely found yourself super inspired to start speaking up for yourself… even to those tough peeps (hi, mom) who make it extremely challenging. You muster all your new-found courage and go broach the challenging topic at hand with the challenging person at hand, and BOOM! “Said person” doesn’t get what you’re trying to share, totally doesn’t respect any boundaries you propose, and hurls so much guilt and hurt your way, you’re not totally sure you’ll survive.
You’re left vacillating between two very opposing emotions. On one hand, you are super, fuckin’ proud of yourself for taking a stand and spelling out some tough boundaries. But on the other hand, you’re terribly hurt, bummed out, and deeply saddened that your loved one and you are at odds.
Listen, when you start speaking up for what YOU want for a change, there are going to be people in your life who just do not like the new, “empowered you”. They may be mean, make you wrong, or push guilt on you like no one’s biz. But, all is not lost. What to watch out for if you’re a “recovering” people-pleaser
How to use the other person’s reaction to know if you’re on the right track or not

EEver find yourself obsessing about what others may be thinking? Or re-run conversations in your head, second-guessing everything you said? Have a difficult time saying ‘No’ because… um, what if they don’t like me!? Ever feel like if someone is disappointed in you, you are damn-near destroyed and ruined? Or do you ever experience extreme guilt when you take time for yourself or set up a boundary?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of those Qs, it’s likely that you are struggling with some serious approval addiction… essentially, the need to be liked… At. All. Costs. And those “costs” are usually your time, energy, self-worth, and desires. And, let me tell you, you are most certainly not alone.
In this week’s show I look at the common ways approval addiction shows up in your life and a specific 5-step process you can take to start ushering in some #legit SELF-approval… Instead of always worrying about what everyone else is thinking about you. #exhausting

How to acknowledge that a situation in your life sucks, but YOU don’t suck… and really believe it.
