4 Things You Must Stop Lying About + What to Say Instead EP#168

4 Things You Must Stop Lying About + What to Say Instead EP#168

.

______

WWe all want to consider ourselves honest people, but when it comes down to it, we spend quite a bit of time avoiding, fibbing, and sugar-coating our true thoughts and feelings out of fear of what others may think or say. Don’t get me wrong-I don’t think for one minute you’re intentionally lying to everyone (or to yourself), but more often than not, you’ve bought into the fallacy that you must take care of everyone’s response which may leave you less than truthful.

The first item of business is shining a light on where you may be skipping the truth in order to “not rock the boat”. After all, you don’t know what you don’t know. And keep in mind that you can speak your truth, no matter how polarizing, with the utmost grace and kindness. In this episode, I look at four super common ways we tend to lie our faces off… both to others and to ourselves. If you struggle with how to speak up for yourself and often tell a little fib instead, you’ll want to tune in. Have a little listen and see if there is room for you to be a bit more honest.

This pod explores:

  • Why we tend to lie when people request things of us (Because… I mean, you just could never let them down!!!)
  • Why saying “nothing is wrong” is like saying “what I’m feeling doesn’t matter” and what to say instead
  • How you have been lying to yourself about your worthiness and how to switch it up
  • My favorite tool to identify just how much power you really have

The Poison of Perfectionism and What To Do About It EP#167

The Poison of Perfectionism and What To Do About It EP#167

.

______

II used to flippantly refer to myself as a Perfectionist and oftentimes I would elude to it being somewhat of a badge of honor. As I got older and my anxiety increased, I realized that being a chronic perfectionist was actually STEALING my joy instead of making my job easier. But, how does one just stop being a perfectionist?

Perhaps you find yourself in the same boat; Vacillating between being SOLD on the idea that everything has to be just perfect and the conflicting desire to let things “go with the flow” or just be “good enough”. If you’ve found yourself in this dance, you are most certainly not alone. In this week’s episode, I break down just how detrimental the strive for perfection can be and how it often leads to much suffering, frustration, and angst.

Additionally, I dig into 5, easy-to-implement steps you can take to begin allowing room for your humanity without sacrificing excellence and how you can maintain your integrity AND your sanity.

This pod explores:

  • Why “Perfect” doesn’t really exist and how the pursuit of perfection can be #supes detrimental
  • How to figure out the personal “Rules” you’ve established for yourself that have locked you into perfectionism
  • How the quest for perfection keeps you trapped in the small picture rather than the big picture and why that matters
  • How to allow room for excellence and integrity in what you do, without the “pressure of perfect”

How to Deal with The Great Friendship Break-Up EP#166

How to Deal with The Great Friendship Break-Up EP#166

.

______

TTell me if this sounds familiar: You have “this friend”… and this friend is perhaps someone you’ve know forever, maybe you saw each other through some tough times, but at this particular place in your life, this friendship has been feeling downright toxic. But you guilt yourself saying, “Well, we’ve been friends since college” or “Am I a dick if I don’t want to be there for her anymore?”

If that sounds at all familiar, you are in the same boat that many people find themselves in when they reach their 30s and 40s. You’ve grown as a person, your life has changed, and your priorities have shifted. But, you still feel tethered to this historical relationship that feels more like it’s robbing you dry than adding to your intimate connections.

A listener of the show wrote to the pod asking how to actually let go of one of these friendships. I mean, how do you go about breaking up with a friend? Is there an approach? How do you know if you’re being a big ‘ol meanie? If you’ve been pulled to part ways with a friendship, but have no idea what-the-hell that actually looks like, you may want to have a listen. I discuss 3 major concepts you need to keep in mind (you know, to keep your shit straight) and 2 specific methods you can take to actually pull the trigger on the “break up”.

This pod explores:

  • How to tap into the “real” reason you’re looking to end the friendship
  • How to get connected to the way you need to conduct yourself so you’re proud of your own behavior (even if the other person loses their shit)
  • How to determine if there is any way the friendship can be salvaged
  • Two specific methods to “break up” with this unfulfilling friendship

How to Stop Saying Yes and Start Saying No #EP165 (partial re-broadcast)

Free Worksheet

______

EEver feel like if you speak up for yourself and tell someone “No” to something they are requesting of you or decline an invite (even to obligatory family functions… GASP!) then you are totally being an asshole? Or being super mean? JUST because you’re saying “No”? If this is your belief, you are sooooo not alone. I can’t tell you how many times people tell me that if they say “No” to someone they assume they are totally responsible for the other person’s feelings.

What if that actually wasn’t true? What if saying “No” could be done with the utmost kindness and grace? What if saying “No” had nothing to do with the other person and only meant you were taking care of YOU? Well, guess what? It can. And, in this week’s pod, I’m challenging the listeners (YOU!) to not only take a stand and start saying “No” to the shit that no longer serves you, but also to change your entire mentality about what you’ve made this whole concept “mean’ until now. What if you could start saying “No” and totally lose the routine guilt trip? Yes, please! Tune in and I’ll show you how! Plus, there’s a totally free worksheet to accompany this episode! #winning

This pod explores:

  • What’s really happening when you say “Yes” to everyone else (besides yourself)
  • Why you actually mean “I won’t” when you say “I can’t”
  • Exactly HOW to say “No”… without being an ass
  • How gratitude can get you out of almost every situation

What to Do When You Don’t Know What to Do EP#164

.

______

AA PODiance member wrote to the show and wanted to know how to figure out what to do… when you just don’t know what to do… aka Making Tough Decisions. I mean… how on earth do you know if you’re making the right choice or not? And, GOD! What if you don’t make the “right” choice! Hell may freeze over…

Or maybe you’re super indecisive, always second-guessing your choices, and find yourself fearful of making the wrong choice… so you simply remain paralyzed, not moving in any real direction. Or maybe you’re having a hard time making a choice because of other people in your life. Maybe you’re afraid of letting them down or afraid of how they may feel about your choices.

In this episode, I share six steps to take when you are spiraling into the “I don’t know what to do!” abyss. These specific steps will help you get centered, make powerful choices for yourself, and let go of what everyone else may think about it. Yes, please!

This pod explores:

  • How to use the information you already know to help guide your decision-making
  • Why quitting is sometimes the best move to take
  • How to figure out if you’re making choices based on what YOU want… or if you’ve been motivated by other people’s opinions
  • The exact phrase you need to start telling yourself when you hear yourself saying, “I don’t know!”

How to Get Out of the Comparison Trap EP#163

How to Get Out of the Comparison Trap EP#163

.

______

EEver find yourself cruisin’ through Facebook, just minding your own business, and then BOOM! You see someone who is thinner than you posing in her bikini in her exotically sexy, annoying vaca pics and you instantly start comparing yourself to her. Or maybe it’s that one guy you used to work with sharing about his amazing work promotion for his new, totally awesome company, and your mind starts GOING OFF about how you just aren’t smart enough… not good enough… not accomplished enough. Just. Not. Enough. And, you end up thinking, “I’ve got to stop comparing myself to others!” Because… it feels kinda shitty, amiright!?

Maybe it’s not even Facebook… although it can be a BEAST in the whole comparison thing. Maybe it’s your co-worker, your neighbor, your bestie, or even your spouse that you constantly compare yourself to. And it usually ends the same way… with you CONVINCED that you totally suck. How do I know? Oh, honey, because I have soooo been there. And you are certainly not alone. In this week’s episode, I share four ways you can change how you address the comparison trap which will allow you to actually enjoy stalking out your nephew’s hilarious pics on Facebook instead of plummeting into self-hate.

This pod explores:

  • How to catch yourself when you start “making up” what other people’s successes mean about you
  • How to get to the root of what triggers you
  • How to be sure you are setting yourself up for success by hanging out with the right peeps
  • How to switch your focus so you feel empowered instead of feeling like shit

The Pain Involved with Standing Up for Yourself EP#162

The Pain Involved with Standing Up for Yourself EP#162

.

______

IIf you’re like many of my clients and students, you have likely found yourself super inspired to start speaking up for yourself… even to those tough peeps (hi, mom) who make it extremely challenging. You muster all your new-found courage and go broach the challenging topic at hand with the challenging person at hand, and BOOM! “Said person” doesn’t get what you’re trying to share, totally doesn’t respect any boundaries you propose, and hurls so much guilt and hurt your way, you’re not totally sure you’ll survive.

You’re left vacillating between two very opposing emotions. On one hand, you are super, fuckin’ proud of yourself for taking a stand and spelling out some tough boundaries. But on the other hand, you’re terribly hurt, bummed out, and deeply saddened that your loved one and you are at odds.

Listen, when you start speaking up for what YOU want for a change, there are going to be people in your life who just do not like the new, “empowered you”. They may be mean, make you wrong, or push guilt on you like no one’s biz. But, all is not lost. In fact, this episode is all about navigating the pain of standing up for yourself, deciding what the healthiest choices are for you, and owning your personal power like a total badass.

This pod explores:

  • How to resist the urge to “make someone like you” after the two of you have had a tough convo (even if they’re super pissed at you, but you totally don’t think you did anything wrong)
  • What to watch out for if you’re a “recovering” people-pleaser
  • How to use the other person’s reaction to know if you’re on the right track or not
  • How self-talk filters into the equation and the exact phrase I use to stay connected to my peace

How to Stop Trying to Control Shit Out of Your Control EP#161

How to Stop Trying to Control Shit Out of Your Control EP#161

.

______

EEver find yourself soooo furious when someone doesn’t do/say/be something you want them to? Or how about stressing out for days wondering if you landed that new job (which you can’t control) or if you’re going to be asked out again by you-know-who (also out of your control)? Or maybe you lose your shit if someone who is trying to “help” you isn’t doing it right? And perhaps you find yourself wondering, “Why do I want to control everything?”

In this episode, we look at the psychological and evolutionary reason why we try our damnedest to forecast every incident in our lives… aka CONTOL. Trying to force things into existence. Make your ex do something. Make someone hire you. Make someone ask you out again. And, while you’re spun out obsessing about how to control all these scenarios, you’re left feeling frustrated, empty and ultimately quite unhappy.

We also look at how our compulsion to control actually does serve us and contribute to our happiness and how to figure out the difference. Have a listen and learn how to loosen up that death-grip on control. You won’t die. Promise.

This pod explores:

  • The psychological reason we are compelled to control events and people in our lives and what to do about it
  • How to truly allow yourself to want the result you crave, without obsessing all. damn. day.
  • How to craft a new definition of success that allows you to win every time, with every thing, and everyone
  • My fav mantra formula to let go of shit you can’t control

5 Lies You Tell Yourself About Making Others Happy EP#160

5 Lies You Tell Yourself About Making Others Happy EP#160

.

______

EEver feel like if you tell someone you aren’t available to help them/do something for them, then you are totally letting them down? (And subsequently find yourself riddled with guilt?) Ever feel like you are soooo busy doing everything for everyone else that you have little, if any, time for yourself? Or have you ever felt that if you actually say NO to someone and choose to put yourself first, that you’d be a “total asshole”?

If those thoughts have run through your mind, congrats… you’re totally normal. But, I’m guessing that way of operating isn’t really leaving you super fulfilled, happy, and full of confidence and a sense of self-worth, amiright? [In my oh-so-humble opinion] we’ve been inundated with faulty messaging about what is “polite”, what is “being rude”, and what is “letting others down”. I believe the only way we can be super impactful with those we love, is to actually take care of ourselves… first. Seriously. Fucking FIRST. If you struggle in this category (again, you totally aren’t alone) have a listen to this episode where I dispel some super common myths about making everyone happy.

This pod explores:

  • The huge LIE you have probably bought into without even knowing it
  • Why putting yourself first is the most UNselfish thing you could do
  • How to take care of yourself, communicate that with others, and NOT feel like an asshole
  • Why putting everyone else first is a huge indicator of how you really value/don’t value yourself

How to Stop Sabotaging Yourself EP#159

How to Stop Sabotaging Yourself EP#159

.

______

MMany years ago, I had a discussion with my coach which started out with me bitching and complaining about how unhappy I had been in my life lately. After working through a handful of things, I became SUPER clear that my day in and day out life wasn’t reflective of the things I knew brought me joy and happiness. I wasn’t taking care of my health, wasn’t meditating, wasn’t connecting with like-minded spirits, wasn’t involved in creative projects… so NO WONDER I had hit a rough patch!

Was it that I didn’t know what would help me feel better? Nope. That was just the prob. I totally knew what lit me up, I was just not doing any of those things. I was involved in full-on self-sabotage and I had NO idea I was even doing it!

Perhaps you can relate? Maybe you want to embark on a new career, but instead of researching, you zone out on some rando’s vacation pics on Facebook. Or maybe you want to get healthier, but you continue to hang out with people who make it #supes challenging to go for the kale over the burger. If you’re like most people, chances are you consistently get in your own way and have perpetual non-cohesiveness between what you SAY you want and what you actually DO.

In this episode, I untangle what-the-hell self-sabotage even is, why we do it (even without knowing it), and exactly what you can do about it (like, today!). Be sure to grab your cheatsheet [points to yellow button above] and get ready to make some shit happen.

This pod explores:

  • How our fear is directly related to our self-sabotaging behavior and the question that will get you to the root of your fear
  • The three main areas of your life you need to examine and alter to seriously set yourself up for success
  • How to figure out a game plan for the things you need to keep, stop, and start in your daily routine
