MMany years ago, I had a discussion with my coach which started out with me bitching and complaining about how unhappy I had been in my life lately. After working through a handful of things, I became SUPER clear that my day in and day out life wasn’t reflective of the things I knew brought me joy and happiness. I wasn’t taking care of my health, wasn’t meditating, wasn’t connecting with like-minded spirits, wasn’t involved in creative projects… so NO WONDER I had hit a rough patch!
Was it that I didn’t know what would help me feel better? Nope. That was just the prob. I totally knew what lit me up, I was just not doing any of those things. I was involved in full-on self-sabotage and I had NO idea I was even doing it!
Perhaps you can relate? Maybe you want to embark on a new career, but instead of researching, you zone out on some rando’s vacation pics on Facebook. Or maybe you want to get healthier, but you continue to hang out with people who make it #supes challenging to go for the kale over the burger. If you’re like most people, chances are you consistently get in your own way and have perpetual non-cohesiveness between what you SAY you want and what you actually DO.
In this episode, I untangle what-the-hell self-sabotage even is, why we do it (even without knowing it), and exactly what you can do about it (like, today!). Be sure to grab your cheatsheet [points to yellow button above] and get ready to make some shit happen.
This pod explores:
How our fear is directly related to our self-sabotaging behavior and the question that will get you to the root of your fear
The three main areas of your life you need to examine and alter to seriously set yourself up for success
How to figure out a game plan for the things you need to keep, stop, and start in your daily routine

II know the drill… You would totally be able to figure shit out if only your ex wasn’t such an asshole… Or, you totally could move up in the company, if only your boss wasn’t such an asshat. You would for sure have a great relationship with your sister if only she wasn’t such a dick about everything. In essence… you could totally be happy if only everyone else got their shit together.
Sound familiar? Now, don’t get me wrong… I’m not saying it’s okay that your boss micromanages your ass or that it’s okay that your ex is making things hella challenging, but what I am saying is staying locked into blame and constant complaining is creating (albeit subconsciously) a total victim mentality on your part.
Wait, whaaaaa!? Yep. You. When you get stuck in the rat race of chronic “blame + complain”, you unknowingly give away all your power to people and circumstances you can’t control, perpetually feel like shit because you can’t control those things/people, and end up not doing anything to alter the situation. I mean, it’s so-and-so’s fault, right?
Wrong. Listen, you are waaaaaay to smart to live your life as a victim. Even if you had no idea you were doing so. Have a listen and see if you’ve been unknowingly residing in Martyrdomsville and what you can actually do to change it. Like, yesterday.
This pod explores:
How to be pissed at people and situations WITHOUT getting lost in Blame + Complain
Why saying shit like, “Of course this would happen to me” is doing NOTHING to aid in your personal power
How to stop trying to “one up” people with your current shitty set of affairs (as in, “You think your sitch sucks, just listen to my story…”)
Why you need to stop saying “Why me?” Like, NOW.

EEver find yourself trying to add yet another thing to your already-packed schedule and that little voice in your head screams, “I DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THIS!!!” Or how ’bout this one: You just can’t bring yourself to tell someone “No”, so you pack on an additional obligation that totally sends you over the edge into Full. Blown. Overwhelm. Total straw-that-broke-the-camel’s-back style. And, then you proceed to unleash that overwhelm on your hubs, or kids, or some poor, unassuming bystander.
Listen, we all struggle with allocating our time wisely, and even the most structured peeps can fall into the trap of feeling as though you never have enough time and become super stressed by your overwhelming… um, overwhelm. But all is certainly not lost. And, believe it or not, there are probably a decent amount of things you can easily shift to bring you loads more time (well, maybe more like a handful) and shit-ton less overwhelm.
This pod explores:
How saying “No” to bullshit obligations can make your world waaaay more magical
Why you need to implement some serious “systems” and what-the-hell that means
The sneaky roll Perfectionism plays in your time management
How to ask for help when you soooo don’t want to ask for help

IIf you’ve ever had a massive issue with a family member that left you feeling angry, frustrated, and disappointed, you are in great company. I mean… most of us have, right? It’s not uncommon to find yourself at odds with someone in your family and have a serious battle with how to navigate these sticky situations.
And maybe you’ve spoken up before and experienced a backlash you don’t want to experience again. So perhaps you’ve remained silent. And that anger, frustration, and resentment just festers and grows… until you blow up at your best friend or spouse because GOD-FORBID you actually address it with the family member involved. So, give yourself some compassion because these sorts of conflicts are extremely challenging and let’s not forget that we’re never taught how to speak up for ourselves in a kind and powerful way.
So, how do you stand up to your family? Have a listen to this episode where I break down four steps you can take to give voice to your familial grievances without moving out of the country or blocking your mom on Facebook. You just may have far more power than you think.
This pod explores:
Why you need to establish boundaries, what the hell that even means, and how to do it
My favorite way to prepare yourself before going into volatile or uncomfortable family functions
How to figure out the role you want certain family to play in your life
How to practice speaking up and what it has to do with your confidence

UUnless you happened to have a truly magical upbringing where you were encouraged to process uncomfortable emotions, it’s likely that you did what most of us did… You learned to simply shut off fear, anger, sadness, or disappointment. And, we all learned to deal with these scary-ass feelings through different means… maybe you learned to people-please instead of feeling guilt. Maybe you learned to hide out and internalize your sadness leading you to huge lash-outs and explosions in your relationships. Or maybe feeling those uncomfortable feelings led you numb out with Facebook, sex, booze, or throwing yourself into work.
If any of that sounds #supes familiar, then you are in great company, my friend. While we were able to learn reading, writing, and arithmetic in school, often we were NOT taught how to process fear, guilt, anger, or sadness in a healthy [and totally human] way. Leading us to fumble around as adults wondering what-the-hell our problem is.
In this episode, I share a three-step process to help you deal with your not-so-fuzzy emotions so that you don’t resort to addictions, explosive relationships, or lack of intimacy.
This pod explores:
What-the-hell emotional resiliency is and why it’s imperative to accessing the “fun” feelings you crave (Ie. Joy, happiness, excitement, love, etc)
How to catch yourself in an uncomfortable emotion before you turn to a behavior that isn’t healthy (Ie. Not keying someone’s car just because you’re pissed)
Why the “only way out is through” and what that actually looks like
How to do decide what to actually DO after you’ve processed some tough feelings

TTell me if this sounds familiar: You get all pumped up because of a hot date or an awesome job opportunity and as soon as you start to get a bit excited, BOOM, fear sets in. And, maybe some panic… let’s be honest. Totally paralyzed by fear.
All of sudden, your mind is flooded with fearful thoughts…”What if he thinks I’m ugly and have too much baggage?” or “What if they think I’m totally under-qualified…” Your excitement gets completely side-swiped by FEAR. Amiright!?
This cycle is super common and there’s actually a really good reason for that… We were given fear as a defense mechanism and it’s totally a part of our primal makeup. That’s all well and good, but how about not being so damn afraid of what people think of you?
In this week’s episode, we’re discussing how to break free from fear paralysis and my three fave ways to work with my fear instead of being victimized by it.
This pod explores:
The reason we need to make friends with our fear
The difference between self-talk and fear and how they’re connected
What emotional resilience is and how it can help you overcome your freak-outs
How to practice courage instead of getting stuck in the fear trap

UUnless you’ve been living under a rock, you have undoubtedly heard the notion of “setting boundaries”, but have you ever wondered exactly what that means? Or maybe you drummed up the nerve to tell someone (like, your mom, boss, or bestie) how you really felt about something only to be blatantly ignored? (Or worse… not even taken seriously.)
How do you actually go about establishing boundaries that are clear, respected, and adhered to? It’s hard enough to broach a challenging topic with someone, let alone follow through on your boundary.
Here’s the deal… if you’ve been constantly bitchin’ and moanin’ about something, and you’ve been super vocal about it to everyone, except the person who really needs to know you’re (ah-hem) “upset”, then it’s probably time to have a tough convo. In this week’s episode, I share my three-step process to establishing boundaries in a way in which you can be heard, and own your personal power.
This pod explores:
What-the-hell a boundary even is
The tell-tale place to find where a boundary is sorely needed
My three-step process to having these challenging convos
What to do if someone flat-out doesn’t accept your request

EEver find yourself hoping and praying that something will work out in your favor? Maybe you’re hoping a family function will go well, you get that job you’ve interviewed for, or perhaps you are hoping *that certain someone* you love will finally get clean and sober. And, although we’ve been taught that Hope is quite the virtue, I would argue that sometimes Hope destroys. (Yes, I actually just said that.)
I think it’s far less common to talk about the negative consequences of a life consumed in Hope. Now, don’t get me wrong, I totally think Hope has it’s place and can provide immense comfort, but I think it’s worth examining when we use Hope as a crutch. As an excuse. As denial. Hoping that things work out but NOT making any solid plans of action. Hoping that your spouse will magically be what you need after expressing your needs over and over again and continually being let down… but, of course, hanging on to hope that he’ll change.
And let’s not forget that when you place all your eggs in the Hope basket, you are likely giving all your power away to people and circumstances you can’t control and ultimately you post-pone your happiness… You know, until X,Y, or Z happens… Because surely then, THEN you can be happy. Have a listen and see if you’ve been attached to Hope as a breath of inspiration and comfort or if you’ve allowed it to become a crutch of stagnation and self-sacrifice. Or… somewhere in-between.
This pod explores:
Why Hope isn’t a strategy
Think you’re super hopeful? You may actually be in denial… find out how to tell the difference
How Hope may be putting your happiness on hold
How to know when it’s time to be hopeful and when you’re giving all your power away to shit you can’t control

EEver feel like… If only my boss wasn’t such and idiot, our workplace would be so much better. Or, if only my ex wasn’t such a douchebag, then my life would be so much easier. Or, if only our economy was better, then I’d be able to take care of my finances. Or, if only my mom wasn’t so damn irritating, I’d totally be happy.
If any of this sounds familiar, congrats, you’re totally normal. We don’t consciously decide to become blamers, but it often becomes our go-to behavior when we’re unhappy with something or someone in our lives. It’s MUCH easier to stand in blame (and we’re also conditioned to do so) than it is to search for your role in the matter. So, how does one go about letting go of blame?
In this week’s episode, I look at why we tend to immediately blame others, or things outside our control, why it’s a trap and totally ineffective, and what you can actually DO about it. And, trust… Get ready to feel a shit-ton better and massively more powerful.
This pod explores:
Our biological need to find the culprit and why we often turn to blame (often without realizing it)

How blame and forgiveness are related and how you can forgive and still establish boundaries
Journal prompt Q’s for you to pin-point where you get blame-trapped

EEver wonder what it really takes to maintain happiness in a long-term relationship? I mean… don’t passions just naturally fizzle and fade for every couple? Aren’t happy couples just for fairy tales and movie magic?
Think about it… It’s HIGHLY likely you know very few couples who have been together for a long period of time who actually still really like each other. I believe there is a reason for that. For many of us, there has never been a handy manual on how-the-hell to communicate, get your needs met, or work on vulnerabilty. Amiright? Most of what we learn is from whatever example we received from our parents (ugh!), our media, or our life experience which often leave us floundering inside relationships wondering what-the-hell our problem is.
Bottom line: It’s totally possible to have a long-term, happy relationship. You just need to know HOW. It’s likely you’ve simply never been taught. In this episode (part 2 of 2), Mr. Smith and I dig into 4 more components we’ve employed in our marriage to keep us connected, thriving, and happy. And guess what? It’s not rocket science, only for the “lucky” ones, or involving tons of time and money. Chances are you can do things TODAY that can radically change the dynamic of your relationship.
This pod explores:
How those walls you have built up are doing nothing for your intimacy
What it really looks like to communicate effectively with your partner
How we (Mr. Smith and I) have unconventionally approached the management of our household and why it creates so much harmony for us
How to create shared meaning through traditions and rituals
