EEver wonder why having difficult conversations causes soooo much anxiety, often leaving you tongue-tied, frustrated with how you’re getting your point across, and down-right bummed-the-fuck-out? It can be super stressful to approach a sticky topic with someone in your life, especially if you are anticipating a less than enthusiastic response. Believe it or not, there are actually a handful of things you can totally shift in your approach in order to get your message across in a MUCH more effective way. You know, without throwing your husband’s shoes at him.
This episode targets 6 steps you can easily employ to feel much more powerful when you tell your mother-in-law to stop trying to parent your kids. Or whatever other challenging topic you need to address. You’ll learn the most effective way to communicate your needs (and in turn get what you want) without feeling like a big ol’ asshole.
This pod explores:
What you need to do BEFORE you have a tough conversation in order to set yourself up for success
How to begin a conversation in such a way that the other party is totally willing to hear you out
How to get really clear on what you’re asking for or requesting
How to own your shit and feel good about what you’re expressing, even if the other person isn’t diggin’ it

FFind yourself dreading holiday functions with your family because it’s only a matter of time until your mom pesters you about why you don’t go to church anymore… or you aunt gives you shit for not having kids or not being married… or your uncle gets in a heated (uncomfortable) “discussion” about gun rights? Or perhaps you’re dreading the impending convo where your bro asks you for money. Again.
Even though the holidays are supposed to be merry and bright, they can often be the most stressful when it comes to dealing with our families. Enter years of baggage, a shit-ton of guilt, mix in some alcohol, and you have a family holiday that leaves you feeling like shit instead of connected with those you supposedly love the most. If this sounds any kind of familiar, all is not lost. And, believe it or not, you can totally take back your holiday experience, boundary your ass off, and consciously CHOOSE your focus this holiday. Even if your sister is an ass-hat.
This pod explores:
How to prepare for your family function ahead of time to set you up for success… even if your family is giving the circus a run for their money
What it really looks like to set up healthy boundaries and actually follow through on them
How to avoid (or end) uncomfortable conversations with the utmost grace
How to decide exactly what you want to focus on during the get-together… you know, so you can actually enjoy yourself

EEver feel like if you speak up for yourself and tell someone “No” to something they are requesting of you or decline an invite (even to obligatory family functions… GASP!) then you are totally being an asshole? Or being super mean? JUST because you’re saying “No”? If this is your belief, you are sooooo not alone. I can’t tell you how many times people tell me that if they say “No” to someone they assume they are totally responsible for the other person’s feelings.
What if that actually wasn’t true? What if saying “No” could be done with the utmost kindness and grace? What if saying “No” had nothing to do with the other person and only meant you were taking care of YOU? Well, guess what? It can. And, in this week’s pod, I’m challenging the listeners (YOU!) to not only take a stand and start saying “No” to the shit that no longer serves you, but also to change your entire mentality about what you’ve made this whole concept “mean’ until now. What if you could start saying “No” and totally lose the routine guilt trip? Yes, please! Tune in and I’ll show you how! Plus, there’s a totally free worksheet to accompany this episode! #winning
This pod explores:
What’s really happening when you say “Yes” to everyone else (besides yourself)
Why you actually mean “I won’t” when you say “I can’t”
Exactly HOW to say “No”… without being an ass
How gratitude can get you out of almost every situation

PPerhaps some of the most challenging relationships we have in our lives are those with our own parents. Although we love them deeply, they are oftentimes the ones who pose the most “issues” in our worlds and who tend to drive us the most batty. You feel me? In this week’s podcast, I address a listener submission from a woman wanting to know what do if her father has caused tons of hurt to other beloved people in her life, but has always been awesome to her. Tricky, no? The same listener also wanted to know what to do with a mother who seriously bugs the shit out of her.
This sort of parental frustration is suuuuuper common and I’m sure you’re no stranger to a similar dynamic. In this episode, I offer 5 concepts to help you address a parent who is actually kind of an asshole and 5 different steps to broaching tough conversations with a parent who is driving you nuts! Unless you have a super flawless relationship with your parents (and if you do, bless you, and go thank them RIGHT NOW), then this pod is a MUST. Plus, many of these concepts can be applied to other relationships in your life which you find challenging.
This pod explores:
How to love someone deeply AND establish boundaries
How to figure out the role you want a less-than-stellar parent to have in your life
How to approach a conversation with a parent you have issues with WITHOUT being an asshole
How to figure out exactly what you need from them and how to ask for it

IIf you’re like most peeps, you probably assume that you’re the only one struggling with issues in the bedroom. I mean, surely everyone else is have raging, erotic, kitchen-table sex and there must be something totally wrong with you, considering your sex life has been 50 shades of uncomfortable lately. #wrong Here’s the deal… sex is intimate, kinda touchy to talk about, and no one wants to feel like they’re not “doing it” right. And for that same reason, no one really talks about their struggles.
Well, guess what? You are toooootally not alone. In this episode, I dig into 3 (yes, THREE!) listener submissions who want some serious sex advice. I’m dishin’ on everything from polyamory, to not being attracted to your mate, to finding time to connect when you have crazy work/family dynamics. Plus, you can totally listen in private and no one will ever have to know… Lol.

How to stay connected when you’re in a long distance relationship

EEver find yourself cruisin’ through Facebook, just minding your own business, and then BOOM! You see someone who is thinner than you posing in her bikini in her exotically sexy, annoying vaca pics and you instantly start comparing yourself to her. Or maybe it’s that one guy you used to work with sharing about his amazing work promotion for his new, totally awesome company, and your mind starts GOING OFF about how you just aren’t smart enough… not good enough… not accomplished enough. Just. Not. Enough.
Maybe it’s not even Facebook… although it can be a BEAST in the whole comparison thing. Maybe it’s your co-worker, your neighbor, your bestie, or even your spouse that you constantly compare yourself to. And it usually ends the same way… with you CONVINCED that you totally suck. How do I know? Oh, honey, because I have soooo been there. And you are certainly not alone. In this week’s episode, I share four ways you can change how you address the comparison trap which will allow you to actually enjoy stalking out your nephew’s hilarious pics on Facebook instead of plummeting into self-hate.
This pod explores:
How to catch yourself when you start “making up” what other people’s successes mean about you
How to get to the root of what triggers you
How to be sure you are setting yourself up for success by hanging out with the right peeps
How to switch your focus so you feel empowered instead of feeling like shit

EEver find yourself in a situation where you feel really badly that someone else is hurt by your choice of actions, but you’re actually NOT sorry about the actions themselves? Maybe you took a stand for yourself and decided to break up with someone you knew wasn’t healthy for you and they felt differently and wanted to stay together. Or maybe you have chosen not to follow the religion you grew up with to the dismay of your family. Or maybe you chose to leave a job that wasn’t a positive in your world and it was a challenge for your previous boss or co-workers to accept.
When you make a strong (and healthy) choice for yourself it can be damn-near impossible to not be roped in to the guilt that other people may project on you simply because they don’t agree with your choice of actions. In this episode, I am sounding off on what IS in your power when you find yourself #sorrynotsorry.
This pod explores:
How to figure out what you are and are NOT responsible for
How to figure out your intention and why that even matters [Hint: It creates MAJOR relief]
How to recognize guilt and projection from others (In other words, when other people are “making you wrong”)
What it really look like to make peace with “agree to disagree”… even if the other party isn’t on board

EEver feel like if you tell someone you aren’t available to help them/do something for them, then you are totally letting them down? (And subsequently find yourself riddled with guilt?) Ever feel like you are soooo busy doing everything for everyone else that you have little, if any, time for yourself? Or have you ever felt that if you actually say NO to someone and choose to put yourself first, that you’d be a “total asshole”?
If those thoughts have run through your mind, congrats… you’re totally normal. But, I’m guessing that way of operating isn’t really leaving you super fulfilled, happy, and full of confidence and a sense of self-worth, amiright? [In my oh-so-humble opinion] we’ve been inundated with faulty messaging about what is “polite”, what is “being rude”, and what is “letting others down”. I believe the only way we can be super impactful with those we love, is to actually take care of ourselves… first. Seriously. Fucking FIRST. If you struggle in this category (again, you totally aren’t alone) have a listen to this episode where I dispel some super common myths about pleasing everyone else.
This pod explores:
The huge LIE you have probably bought into without even knowing it
Why putting yourself first is the most UNselfish thing you could do
How to take care of yourself, communicate that with others, and NOT feel like an asshole
Why putting everyone else first is a huge indicator of how you really value/don’t value yourself

EEver have those people in your life who tend to always be a victim? They usually have no shortage of complaints but when you suggest a solution, they quickly declare that they really don’t have a choice in the matter. Maybe it’s your mom or your bestie or your co-worker and you genuinely love them, but you would be over-the-fucking-moon if they let go of their martyrdom.
And you (#obvi) are totally into personal development, and stepping into your power and all that which makes this behavior waaaaay more painful to watch, yet you have NO IDEA how to approach this issue. How to do tell your mom that you think she’s putting up a defense and acting like a guilt-hurling victim? How do you tell your bestie that she doesn’t have to always put up a front and act like she’s “soooo overwhelmed” and in “such high-demand all the time”, and “whoaaaaa is me!!!” You know what I’m talking about. In this episode, I share 4 different conversation strategies in broaching this sticky issue. I also address what to do if they decide to stay locked into riding the whoa-is-me-victim-train. How to use compassion (even if you totally don’t feel like it)
How to figure out if you’re branding them as a victim… or if they really are

EEver feel like if you stand up for yourself or speak your mind then everyone will think you are a total dick? Or maybe you think, “If I tell them how I feel, I’m deliberately hurting them! Why would I want to do that?” Makes rational sense, right? No. Here’s the deal: We’ve made up a ton of societal rules that keep us from speaking our truth, asking for what we need, and telling people who we love what our true thoughts are. We live in a suffocating little facade, all the while thinking we are doing the safest, “nicest” thing.
But we really aren’t. We’re just contributing to our own suffering. We make up that everyone else’s thoughts and opinions MUST be more important than ours. Surely, we should just keep our mouths shut and not rock the boat. If you find yourself struggling to stand up for yourself because of FEAR of how others may view you, you should probably have a listen.
This pod explores:
The two most common myths about speaking up
How to figure out what is your responsibility and what isn’t
How to figure out what you really want/need to give voice to
How to allow yourself to desire a specific outcome but not be so attached it controls your behavior… and sanity
